About this scholarship
Louisiana offers foster youth two forms of help: a state law exempting students who were in foster care custody from tuition and mandatory fees at public institutions, and the federal Chafee Education and Training Voucher for additional costs. Students apply through LOSFA and their school's financial aid office.
Who can apply
Students who were in the custody of the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services for any nine of the 24 months before their 18th birthday qualify for the tuition and fee exemption until degree completion or age 25. Chafee ETV eligibility follows federal foster care criteria.
