This $500 book scholarship honors Elizabeth "Sunshine" Brooks, whose open-door policy kept many young people out of the foster care system. The award helps current and former foster youth purchase textbooks and required course materials for college, university or trade school.

Who can apply

Current or former foster youth (documentation such as a letter from a caseworker, foster agency or official verification); enrolled or accepted at an accredited college, university or trade school; high school senior, undergraduate or graduate student; minimum 2.5 GPA; demonstration of financial need; 500-word essay on how foster care shaped the applicant's educational and career aspirations; one letter of recommendation.
